Art Walk: 5 - 8PM, Auction: 6:30 PM in the cafe courtyard
This month’s Art Walk at the Aurora includes a fundraiser for Casa de los Angeles, the San Miguel non-profit organization which provides childcare and other support to working Mexican women. Last year’s auction raised more than 30,000 pesos with artists such as Peter Leventhal and Juan Ezcurdia, amongt other stars in the local art scene by customising rocking chairs. This year the theme is rocking horses and trunks, individually offered for auction.

Lulu Torbet's Shrouds
Also, as part of the Art Walk, be sure to check out the Official Re-Opening of the Generator Gallery featuring Lulu Torbet’s series of large photographs of Candelaria and of the nets and meshes (she refers to them as shrouds) that protect the plants and flowers in the nurseries.

The largest and most prestigious international film festival in ALL of Latin America, Expresion En Corto ,will take place in San Miguel de Allende and our neighboring city of Guanajuato from July 24th to August 2nd. A record number of entries of over two thousand films, from 84 countries and 29 states in Mexico underlines the regard in which this burgeoning flick fest is held. Under the auspices of Sarah Hoch, the event is now a serious contender on the celluloid calendar and has cinephiles flocking from around the world. Last year, the jury contained fine luminaries, such as the two Spikes - Jonze and Lee.
The word from the judges so far this year is that there are some sublime efforts from global talent, as well as a real celebration of Mexican skill and potential future heavyweights.
An international pitching market and a trawl for young talent make this a truly rounded event. (Personally, I am looking forward to the candlelit ‘Midnight Madness’ horror screenings in the graveyards of Guanajuato) There are also vicious rumors of some SERIOUS names attending from this year’s country of film focus: the United Kingdom.
