Irte a Irma!!! Cafe Colon is back!

    Hallelujah!

The tradition and San Miguel institution that was Cafe Colon is back!

Many will remember the fine home-style Mexican breakfasts and lunches served up by the wonderful, Irme.  Well, after a short stint at a hideaway hole-in-the-wall in Guadalupe, where I first tasted the best rancheros I had had in Mexico, the lady is back in business in Centro.  (This was the only time my bespoke request of ‘con mucho ajo’ had been truly observed, and I sweated like I wanted to sweat).

25 pesos will buy your breakfast.  There is no better value in town.

A lunch / comida special of soup and guisado (stew) for 45 pesos is hot on its heels, as far as a bargain is concerned. The soups and the stews change daily.

The old Cafe Colon sign is up on the wall…and I am a happy man.

Get 2X1 ‘Flu’ shots at The Restaurant

Kill or Cure!  It’s business as usual at many fine establishments around San Miguel.   Head over to The Restaurant for two for 1 ‘flu’ shots all night long.  An offer not to be sneezed at.  Sollano 16 also offers (arguably) some of the best cuisine in town… I guess we will soon find out when the results of the Gringos’ Guide to San Miguel become known… see below and get voting.

    UP, UP AND AWAY!

Longhorn Smokehouse on  Salida a Celaya is still offering their tasty steaks, including baked potato and salad each Saturday evening for a mere 90 pesos. A portion of the proceeds taken goes directly toward the Oz Project. The Oz Project enables impoverished children and their families to take a thrilling, free hot air balloon ride, mostly in the campo, that so, just maybe, children can perhaps broaden their overall horizons and perhaps have the thrill of their young lives!

DEMOCRACY ON A PLATE…con salsa politiquante.

VOTE NOW for The Gringo’s Guide to San Miguel Restaurants to benefit a very worthwhile charity.

Up until now, there has been no definitive source of restaurant ratings for San Miguel compiled from a poll of diners. The Gringo’s Guide to San Miguel Restaurants will soon rectify that situation. During the next three weeks, all of San Miguel’s gringos will have an opportunity to take part in a survey measuring their opinions of our restaurants. Continue reading…
